The curator of the exhibition “Image Wars. The Power of Images,” Jana Franze, is guiding interested visitors through the powerful pictorial worlds of the group exhibition. “Image Wars” examines the past with the help of the moving image and investigates different aspects of memory culture with an exhibition consisting solely of video art works by international artists Kader Attia, Cana Bilir-Meier, Melvin Moti, Rabih Mroué, Mario Pfeifer, and Marlies Pöschl. The present power of images and the politics that operate on the social and aesthetic visual memory are in the center of the show. Jana Franze will introduce the individual artistic positions and offers insights into the video art works of the current exhibition.

Jana Franze M.A. (*1986 Salzgitter, lives in Graz) is a junior curator at the Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien. She studied art and media at Braunschweig University of Art. In 2014, she completed her degree with a research focus on contemporary art, visual culture, and visual war reporting. Ever since, Jana Franze’s work as a freelance and institution-based curator and author has revolved around art production and discourses of modernity and the present, their reception, and exhibition-related communication. She has worked at the Kunstverein Hannover, the National Gallery in Prague, the Wilhelm Hack Museum in Ludwigshafen, and the Kunsthalle Mannheim.
