Vortrag (in englischer Sprache)

Prof. Stephen Hugh-Jones (Anthropologe, University of Cambridge)

For Lady Macbeth night was thick and like a blanket. For the Tukanoan peoples of North-West Amazonia, night is made up of black insects that sing in the dark yet paradoxically, night lives inside a box full of brightly coloured feather ornaments.
Focusing on two key elements of Tukanoan material culture in the Weltmuseum Wien’s South American collections this lecture uses stories about the origin of night to show how night is made concrete in the sounds and colours of the indigenous world.
