Damien Rice first achieved international success with the release of his debut album O in 2002. It spent over 80 weeks in the UK T op 75 Album Chart, and sold over 2 million copies worldwide, including 1 million in the UK. The album includes the hit The Blower’s Daughter, the lead track in the Oscar-nominated film Closer. In 2004, Rice was nominated for both a BRIT Award and an NME Award, whilst in the US, Rice became the first UK-signed artist ever to be awarded the prestigious Shortlist Music Prize.
His sophomore record ‘9’ was equally critically acclaimed. Damien was nominated for Best International Male at the BRIT Awards and also played a sold out arena tour, which included Wembley Arena. This culminated in the release of a live album, ‘Live From The Union Chapel’. Rice has made notable contributions to civil rights campaigns worldwide, including the release of the single single Unplayed Piano in support of the Free Aung San Suu Kyi 60th Birthday Campaign, a global initiative to free the Burmese Nobel Peace Prize recipient.
